I am looking for an Android Lead to oversee my clients existing team and help them develop and oversee the implementation and delivery of their products.

Ideally you will be opinionated in your tastes as to how you approach problems, but also open to ideas and have a pragmatic streak that helps deliver them.

As a developer working you will have the chance to evolve and shape their products over the next few years, and they can’t wait to bring more brains on board to make things smarter, faster, more connected and more powerful, capable of running products with a global reach and millions of viewers.

Ideally you will come from a background where you have developed a number of complex applications, and overseen and mentored wider teams of Android developers. This is a hands on role, but your focus will always need to be on the whole team delivering leading, well engineered, Android apps.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Plan and architect projects and their technical solutions to a high standard.
  • Communicate with multi-disciplinary internal and external teams to ensure high quality project deliveries.
  • Take ownership of problems and get stuff done
  • Write & review code, tests and documentation
  • Support more junior members of staff, assisting with their work & personal development a
  • Support projects with Devops/Sysadmin expertise, setup of deployment and testing environments.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technology developments and be prepared to present them internally and to clients

Required Experience:

  • Experience with Android SDK and build tools
  • Strong grasp of the Java programming language
  • Experience with frameworks Gradle, Retrofit/RxJava, Picasso or Fresco or Glide, Dagger 2, Butterknife, or equivalents
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs
  • Experience leading or managing a team
  • Demonstrable knowledge of software design patterns

Would be great if you knew about these:

  • Experience developing video playback technologies
  • Experience with Android TV
  • Experience with DRM
  • Familiarity with UNIX / MacOS development environments

The successful candidate will have links to any accounts on GitHub, BitBucket, etc and be able to talk through their code using a computer during the interview.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Worked on 3+ large ruby projects from inception to completion and support
  • Comfortable at building and consuming RESTful JSON apis
  • Experience with different datastores (MySQL, Redis, MongoDB)
  • Good understanding of git and GitHub
  • Experience in taking part in code reviews
  • Able to work on site in our offices in central London

Nice to haves

  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (Chef or Puppet)
